BIOGRAPHY: Some knew him as Uncle Jack or Jim. (Floyd Creech notes)- Dad tells this story of him. Uncle Jack's brother-in-law came over and was going to whip Jack's step-daughter. Him and Jack got into a fight about it. Jack was a small man and was losing so he said to his step-son, "Son I think you're going to have to help me." The boy drew his pistol and killed the man. Later that man's son followed Jack home from Jackson. Jack shot and killed him. Neither was convicted of murder but it drove Jack's wife nearly out of her mind. A similar story was also told - James and his wife's brother were fighting over an inheritance. James, a small man, was being dragged to the chop block. The man was going to chop off his head so James asked his step-son to not let him kill him. The boy drew his 32 pistol and shot the man 6 times killing him.
